Our Relationship to the Minwalla Model
Joy Recovery’s work is deeply informed by the Minwalla Model of Deceptive Sexuality and Trauma (DST), developed by Dr. Omar Minwalla. His research and clinical framing of integrity abuse, reality distortion, and partner trauma have significantly shaped how we understand ethical recovery after betrayal.
At the same time, Joy Recovery is not certified by, affiliated with, or endorsed by Dr. Minwalla or the Minwalla Model certification program.
Our programs represent an independent application and synthesis of the DST framework alongside broader betrayal-trauma research, accountability-based recovery principles, and partner-safety standards.
Where the Minwalla model provides a clinical lens for understanding deceptive sexuality and its traumatic impact, Joy Recovery focuses on:
-
Clear recovery sequencing
-
Observable integrity-based capacities
-
Partner autonomy and safety
-
Education that does not substitute for accountability
We reference the Minwalla model openly and accurately because language matters. Naming integrity abuse and reality distortion helps individuals and partners understand what actually happened — and why many traditional recovery approaches fail.
Our use of this framework is educational, ethical, and intentionally bounded. Learning the model does not constitute recovery, readiness, or relational repair.
